Product
- 2018: We added Vrbo as a second integration alongside Airbnb, entered channel management territory with our Sync product, and started offering in-depth occupancy and financial metrics.
- 2019: We rebranded and launched an entirely new, modern web app experience.
- 2020: Apart from a few wildcard projects in response to the pandemic (RIP footshake, "churchill", and "napoleon"), we spent this challenging year improving and simplifying the customer experience across the board.
- 2021: We've released two of the most requested features: our official Booking.com integration - adding a 3rd major platform alongside Airbnb and Vrbo - as well as the ability to manually add bookings on Hospitable’s calendar and inbox.
- 2022: Launched Direct — our direct-booking website product — built in public with customers. Hosts could now take commission-free bookings on their own custom-domain site, fully integrated with our messaging, calendar, and operations.
- 2023:
- Launched Hospitable Connect, our B2B API product that lets partners give their customers a one-click Airbnb connection without building or maintaining the integration themselves. Expanded the operations product around teammates, task automation, and cleaning workflows.
- Google Vacation Rentals — listings on Hospitable's Direct sites became distributable to Google Vacation Rentals, putting host inventory directly in Google search and travel results.
- 2024
- August: launched Mogul — our top-tier plan for property managers and larger portfolio operators. Brought first-class Owner Statements, reservation commission tracking, and the foundations of the PM Marketplace (matching property owners with managers).
- Stood up our payments infrastructure on Adyen end-to-end, unlocking a wave of transaction-based features: guest verification, security deposits, damage protection, and upsells.
- Launched the Smart Devices product line (smart locks and thermostats via Seam), bringing 100+ devices into a smooth automated check-in flow.
- Launched Direct Premium as a paid add-on for hosts going deep on direct bookings.
- 2025
- Launched Inbox AI — AI-assisted guest replies and triage built right into the host inbox.
- Launched Hospitable Dynamic Pricing, our embedded pricing product (powered by a Wheelhouse integration but presented as a first-party feature).
- Expanded Mogul significantly: deeper owner portal, payouts and statements polish, and the PM Marketplace opening up to property managers of all sizes.
- 2026
- Released our public MCP server, letting hosts (and their AI assistants) query and act on their Hospitable data — a first in the STR space.
- Shifted the company-wide growth metric to active paying users, with a strong focus on activation, transaction adoption, and churn reduction rather than just shipping features.
- Continued investing in AI across the product, deeper Mogul features for larger portfolios, and the Connect partner ecosystem.
Tech
- Late 2018: We took on a product designer, a front-end engineer, and begun work on Hospitable 2.0 - a completely new interface design, which also splits the old monolithic front/back end codebase into distinct projects
- Mid 2019: We launched Hospitable 2.0 ! 🎉 A full redesign and rearchitecting of the web app, with clear separation of the new Angular frontend, a (JSON over REST) API layer, and backend workers.
- 2020: Stabilized and iterated on v2.0, shipped several new major features (User Management, and a mobile PWA for example)
- 2021–2022: Hardened the v2.0 architecture and grew the engineering org around the split between the Angular frontend, our REST API, and our backend workers. Took on real channel-management complexity (Airbnb + Vrbo + Booking.com sync) and the messaging firehose that came with it.
- 2023: Built and shipped the Connect API as a distinct product surface from Core — same platform foundations, different audience (partners, not hosts). Native iOS and Android apps joined the web PWA, with push delivered via OneSignal.
- 2024: Stood up our payments stack on Adyen end-to-end (collection, payouts, chargebacks, disputes), and split our internal tooling into Core Nova (Hospitable's main product) and Direct Nova (direct booking + payments) so support and engineering could move faster on each.
- 2025: Built Nova AI and exposed a full MCP layer so internal agents and tools can safely interact with the same primitives our app uses. Standardised on PostHog for product analytics + session replays, Sentry for errors, Linear for issue tracking, Grafana for observability, BetterStack for incidents, and Customer.io for lifecycle messaging.
