Let's do an exercise in transparency! We think it's a good question to ask any prospective employer to get an insights into their culture.
Why should you join Hospitable?
- We are transparent and talk about business metrics on a weekly basis so that everyone has a clear understanding of how much we earn / burn. It's also a two-way street, and we each appreciate being challenged. We know we are in this together.
- We welcome diversity, and more importantly singularity. We will not judge you based on your background (self-taught?), accent (the foundeeeeuur is French!), personal preferences or how you live, since we each have different lifestyles. On the contrary, we are very interested and want to embrace what makes you, you, but we are going to be in this for quite some time together.
- We care deeply about each other, in and outside of work. If you want to quit smoking, just say it in a meeting, we might ask you how you are doing 10 times a day (in hindsight... might not be the best way 😆).
- We have high expectations for our own work and our colleagues, and embrace the same level of scrutiny and accountability. Work-wise, we care about how you can contribute to our product and our clients, and the impact you can have on both.
- Business politics do not exist with us. There is something that stems from the fact that we are remote, transparent, or the fact that we are perfectly okay sharing vulnerabilities, shortcomings, and are focused on our projects, or that we want to be straightforward, low maintenance, and honest.
- We tend to behave individually as adults. You don’t have to defend yourself or come up with excuses.
- You need a break? Take a day off! No questions asked. We encourage you to do so, come back fresh and productive.
Why should you not join Hospitable?
- We don't do hand-holding or micromanagement. All of our colleagues take ownership over their work and establish their own way of achieving their goals. We think it's a great way of working, but we know it's not for everyone. This means you will be driving the project, and you also be its main fuel. We can help you refuel with our feedback and support. If you want a lot of feedback to grow, that may not be the idea to join us. If you appreciate the autonomy to do your job and get the best impact, you will be able to find it.
- We're a remote team. Each member of the team is responsible for organizing their day to be as productive as possible, and equally they're responsible for their own self-care. To work here, you'd ideally have a deep understanding of your productivity triggers and drains; and be okay to reach out to us about those.
- We don’t only think about what’s on our plate but the things to come. We love people who are thinking about the future as well as today.
- Remote is great at saving you some commuting time, but you will travel much more that you have ever had in a single day. Have you thought about working with people across multiple time zones, from multiple countries, with radically different cultures? This will be a disconcerting environment, where "When is Christmas for you?" is a question with many, many surprising answers.
- We are transparent. Everybody knows how much everyone is paid (which is very uncomfortable in some cultures). We share the balance of the bank account (which might appear huge or so small at the same time for different people). We go through ups and downs, at the risk of feeling like an emotional rollercoaster. This will mean seeing a lot of complexity and taking risks. We would not have it any other way; it takes some time to educate new colleagues about it.
